Celebrate Summer & Connection ~ Easy Distanced Picnic Hike

July 12, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Come join us for a nature immersion day taking in the peaceful Summer beauty of Spooner Lake on a socially distanced hike. This is an easy trail, making it good for all levels of hikers and ideal for conversation. It’s also well-situated for both Tahoe and Reno/Carson attendees. We’ll be doing a full loop, which is around 3 miles or less, giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy the varied surroundings of the season. Pack your own plant-based lunch and beverage to enjoy a picnic next to the lake. Remember to hydrate during peak Summer sun exercise and bring plenty of water. This is a favorite nesting ground for the geese so you may get a good sighting to enjoy their communal gathering along with ours. This will be a socially distanced hike to ensure safety for all, but is also why participation is limited to only 8 participants. The main goal is to get outdoors, enjoy some exercise for well being, breathe in healthy pine filled, immune-system building air, and enjoy some connection during these challenged quarantine times. For anyone who wants to make a fuller day of it on your own, there are trails you can continue on after, to Marlette Lake, which involve elevation gain with climbing and equates to 12 miles round trip. Just an idea for anyone who drives further, to take advantage of the day, and wants more exercise.

To find us, please note carefully the map referenced below. There are more than six different places to park for Spooner Lake, and generally no cell reception, so if you don’t park in the correct lot, you won’t find us. The lot is a triangular dirt lot at the Northeastern intersection of Highways 28 and 50, just south of Spooner Lake. The lot is indicated by the “YES” and red oval in this map: https://www.meetup.com/Tahoe-Herbivores/photos/30952240/. If coming up Hwy 50 from Reno/Carson, the lot is on your right as drive up Hwy 50. If coming from Incline or South Lake Tahoe, it will be on your left and you’ll need to find a safe place to make a U-turn – be careful as traffic is moving at 60 mph or faster.
