Liberation Through Food: A Plant-Powered Diet for Healing & Justice
March 12, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
This FREE program is presented by the Harlem Transformation Project and Plant Powered Metro New York.
From fast food to soul food, oppression through poor nutrition has been a widely used tactic in the marginalization of people of color. What we have been conditioned to eat continues to contribute to this very same oppression.
Come learn about the history and health implications of the standard American diet, and how a diet of whole, plant-based foods — common in nearly all ancestral food cultures around the world — can contribute to both personal healing and health justice. We will:
- View selections from the recently-released documentary The Invisible Vegan
- Hear Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams’ personal story of healing through a whole food, plant-based diet
- Learn with Columbia University physician Diane Thompson, MD, board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine
- Explore how this knowledge can impact our activism with Woke Foods creator, Ysanet Batista
Admission is FREE; registration is not required to attend. However, please register here if you would like a whole food, plant-based dinner from Next Stop Vegan, $15/person. Dinner registration will stay open through mid-day on Tuesday, and pre-registration is strongly recommended.
Doors will open and dinner will be available at 6:30 PM. The program will begin at 7:00 PM.
