VeggieHikers,Vegan Spirituality&No Meat& Mingle Hike at Leo Carrillo State Beach
August 22, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
Join Veggie Hikers, Vegan Spirituality, and the “No Meat & Mingle” communities at Leo Carrillo State Beach for our annual hike. To ensure your safety during these Coronavirus times, we’re not including the potluck/cookout portion of our event this year. You’re welcome to bring your own snacks to eat while we enjoy the hike viewpoints together. During the hike, please practice social distancing and wear a mask if you like.
Dogs are not allowed on the trail. See details about the hike in the “Notes from Hosts” section below.
***This is a free event. Donations are welcome and not required. Funds will be used to pay for Meetup dues, supplies and other costs for future potlucks.***
***NOTES FROM HOSTS: We will meet at the North end of Leo Carrillo State Beach near Lifeguard Tower #4 at 10am. You can park for free on the Pacific Coast Highway or pay to park your car inside the park and drive along the beach to the lot near Tower #4. Please note that as of last year, the stairs that lead from PCH directly to tower #4 were closed. If that is still the case, you can enter the park through the entrance south of Tower 4 and walk along the path to our meeting place. From here, we will start our hike by walking south on the beach to the Nicholas Flat and Willow Creek Trailhead. Then we’ll walk up the Willow Creek Trail to the short Ocean Vista Trail to a beautiful viewpoint.
For a gentle hike, we can descend on the Nicholas Flat Trail toward the beach or continue uphill for a more strenuous hike toward another viewpoint. The gentle version is about 2 miles roundtrip with a climb of 500 feet. The more strenuous version is about 6 miles roundtrip with a climb of 1770 feet for the first 2 miles. The view from the top is worth it! On a clear day, you can see the Channel Islands. Both trail options will be available during our hike.
Bring: sunscreen, hat, water, snacks, hiking gear, windbreaker, bath towel, and bathing suit (if you want to swim after the hike).
Please invite your friends. Non-vegans are welcome and encouraged to attend.
If you’re running late, get lost, or need to call/text on the day of the event, contact Lisa:[masked] or Dave:[masked].
