Reflux disease, both gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), impacts the quality of life of millions of people. For those suffering, symptoms can range from mild discomfort to chronic pain. Join us as otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat doctor) Craig Zalvan, MD, explains the differences between GERD and LPR, discusses how most patients are treated, and lays out the evidence for why whole food, plant-based nutrition offers a better option than eliminating spicy foods and taking expensive medication. Hear how Dr. Zalvan and his colleagues’ research has demonstrated that a mostly plant-based diet can effectively reverse reflux disease and improve symptoms, and how you can take steps to heal.
Craig H. Zalvan, MD, is the Medical Director at the Institute for Voice and Swallowing Disorders and Chief of Otolaryngology at Phelps Hospital, Northwell Health in Sleepy Hollow, New York. He is a Professor of Otolaryngology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and a partner at ENT and Allergy Associates, LLP in New York. His book, Laryngopharyngeal and Gastroesophageal Reflux: A Comprehensive Guide to Diagnosis, Treatment, and Diet-Based Approaches, is the first to combine both fields and a diet-based approach to reflux treatment. Dr. Zalvan is also a Plant Powered Metro New York Medical Advisor.
