The Republic of Korea is home to a remarkable coexistence of old traditions and rising trends from technology to music to food. Join PPMNY in honoring Asian Pacific American Heritage Month as we welcome back Dr. Eui Cheol Lee. Dr. Lee will discuss the plant-based origins of Korean temple food and how they have been impacted by tourism and cultural imports that affect the food landscape and eating habits in Korea. He will illustrate how the Korean population can reconnect with its plant-based traditions by tapping into the vast plant kingdom native to Korea. For those outside of Korea, we’ll learn how to incorporate those traditions into our kitchens with local produce. The presentation will be followed by a culinary demo led by PPMNY Bronx Organizer Vivian Lee, highlighting the rich ssam, or “food wrapping” culture, in Korean food.

Dr. Lee is the director of VegeDoctor, an organization comprised of plant-based medical practitioners in Korea, and head of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Center at Sun Medical Hospital in Daejeon, Korea.

Moderated by PPMNY public health intern Natalie Khoo, RD, CSP, CDN, CNSC.

Registrants will receive a Zoom link on the day of the event.
